What is pain?

Pain is a complex experience which our nervous system gives us as a warning that something may not be right. Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, which is why it can affect our quality of life so deeply. Understanding how and why our bodies produce pain is extremely helpful when learning how to cope with it and regain your quality of life.

The attached video explains pain in a way that can help you to understand the impacts of persistent pain on your functioning, emotions and interpersonal relationships.

The Retrain Pain website has lots of different ways of explaining pain also.
